Heel Spur and Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the so-called plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a strong, connective tissue band that runs from the heel bone to the metatarsophalangeal joints and supports the arch of the foot. The condition is often mistakenly referred to as a heel spur.

The heel spur is a bony outgrowth that forms on the heel bone. A distinction is made between the plantar (tendon attachment of the plantar fascia) and the cranial (tendon attachment of the Achilles tendon) heel spur.

Although these are two separate indications, the causes of their development are often identical. Thus, the therapy to eliminate the causes and relieve the pain is also independent of the specific indication.
