Morton's Neuroma

Morton Neurom

Morton's neuroma is a thickening of the nerves under the metatarsal heads. Often, the nerve between the 2nd and 3rd toe or the 3rd and 4th toe is affected. The pain is perceived as burning or stabbing in the area of the midfoot, which can also radiate into the toes. In Morton's neuroma, the connective tissue sheath of the nerve is inflamed. Due to the inflammation, fluids accumulate in the sheath, which compresses the nerve and thus leads to the described pain.
