Story

1996

1996

The Swiss ETH engineer and movement scientist Karl Müller III, who had suffered from Achilles tendon pain for many years, discovered the health benefits of walking on an elastic, springy surface in a rice field in South Korea – the idea of the first functional shoe, the MBT rolling shoe, was born.

2008

Since then, it has been of great importance to Müller to further develop these shoes. However, MBT increasingly evolved into a lifestyle product, which is why he sold MBT in 2008. To keep the idea of the therapeutic shoe alive, he founded kybun.

At the same time, his son Karl IV founded the brand Joya – with the aim of offering a young, dynamic audience healthy shoes for everyday life.

In 2022, the two brands kybun and Joya merged to enable both young and old to walk and stand healthily.
