Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. MS is considered an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective myelin sheath around the nerve fibers and damages them. Depending on the location of the damage, the symptoms vary. Often, multiple sclerosis results in coordination and balance problems, painful paralysis, visual disturbances, fatigue, cognitive impairments, and sensory disturbances.

The exact causes of Multiple Sclerosis are not fully known. It is believed that a combination of genetic, environmental, and immunological factors play a role. Unfortunately, Multiple Sclerosis is not yet curable.
